So yesterday I donated plasma for the first time..

The Question:

Hello everyone, So yesterday I donated plasma for the first time.  Everything seemed to go Fine but their are a couple issues. Like when the blood is returned back into your body I had burning at the needle site also today my arm hurts and it feels a little week.   Just curious if anyone else has felt this.

Thanks.

⇒ ANSWER 1:

I only donate when I absolutely need to (financially). I usually alway bruise and get a small hematoma. Worse time was when they missed my vein. Not my cup of tea, but I will continue to use it as a last resort.

I'm always nourished & hydrated, so not sure why my experiences are not the best.

Haven't dealt with a burning sensation before but my face/lips get very tingly at the end. It's unpleasant.

⇒ ANSWER 2:

I always get warm and nauseous like I’m going to throw up or pass out so I can’t do it.

⇒ ANSWER 3:

Former phlebotomist and I also was a trainer at my local plasma center. For some the burning is normal for first timers.

I would let your tech know as some machines (depending on their age) do have the option for them to slow down the flow during the return process. The saline could also be causing it.

Please be sure you’re giving your body time to rest after donations as well.

⇒ ANSWER 4:

I tried it two weeks ago and passed out… I have only ever gotten woozy once donating regular blood…

I’m not sure I want to go back… (I did it to get money for extras for my first grade class… the other teachers always get their kids all this amazing stuff since they are not single parents with young kids… then there’s me… stingy teacher… I feel like it looks bad to the kids and parents that I buy less stuff for my classroom.)
